Hannah’s Story – Prevention of young suicide

“My mother passed away from suicide about 6 years ago now. It was the greatest shock of my life when I found her in the morning, not even 2 metres from where I was sleeping.

Even to this day, my family, her friends and I still wonder why and what we could have done to prevent such a tragedy. To an extent, the negative stigma attached to suicide has prevented us from grieving completely.

I felt powerless for many years, until I saw the opportunity to become involved with PAPYRUS. The Suicide Safer Communities project has not only helped me heal as an individual, but is helping many families and young people , and I look forward to helping PAPYRUS reach out to even more individuals and communities.”
