Rob’s Story – Supporting Adults into Employment

“26 year old Rob from Rochdale, who’s confidence was at an all-time low following rejection after rejection from employers ‘I was signing on when I heard about the Dame Kelly Holmes Trust programme, and put my name down,’ he said. Rob’s mentor was Hockey pro Charlotte Hartley, and she was impressed by his attitude and how keen he was to succeed. ‘He was always on time, and when we did our community project in a local primary school, he really shone as the leader. His confidence grew massively and from then on we just knew that he would be such a good asset to anyone who would give him a job.’ Rob has always been keen on sports, and was able to learn a lot from Charlotte. ‘ Working with athletes like Charlotte and hearing about how hard they’ve worked to get where they are, it’s such an inspiration,’ he said. Because of his interest in sport, he was keen to find work within this sector. Link For Life, who run health and fitness initiatives in the area and were supporting the trust in delivering the programme, were also impressed by Rob. They were able to see past his criminal record and offered Rob a job. ‘I’m so happy that someone has given me an opportunity.'”
