First Prize: Stroke Survivors Speech and Language Support Group gives people the opportunity to practice chatting without pressure or stigma. This perfectly timed photograph caught a moment of levity, demonstrating the value of this group creating providing the right environment for healing. In this case, that’s a skittles tournament at the Bickerton Poacher! Both people pictured are stroke survivors, a reminder that stroke can affect people at any time of life.
Second Prize: Down Syndrome Cheshire’s Cheeky Monkeys preschool group brings sensory experiences, learning and fun to their young participants. The universal joy of bubbles and the bond between the adults and children here is evident, and from our floor-level viewpoint the photographer invites us to share the children’s awe and wonder.
Third Prize: Ready Generations’ image shows Rita and Finley repotting seeds together. Once the flowers have grown they’ll be given to anyone at the intergenerational care village who might need cheering up. This project enables older people to pass on the joy of gardening even if they’ve become too frail to work outdoors; indeed the preschool children even have a mobile greenhouse they will bring to resident’s rooms.
Professional Winner: The David Lewis Centre is a longstanding feature of Cheshire’s community and this joyful moment between Sam and Aaron demonstrates the bond between them, taking a moment to relax. Sam is known for his warm hugs, eagerness to help friends and staff, and his excellent decision-making skills.
