Local giving, real change: three stories from The Welcome

Behind every grant Cheshire Community Foundation makes, there are people whose lives are changing for the better. The Welcome, a Knutsford based charity backed by local giving, works alongside people facing some of life's toughest moments, helping them find stability, confidence and a way forward.

When Mr B left the justice system last year, he had nowhere settled to live and no job to go to. A Support Co-ordinator at The Welcome helped him register for social housing, gather the paperwork he needed and access food and essential items while he waited, as well as build a CV and start applying for work. Today Mr B has his own tenancy, has become self-employed and describes his mood and mental health as strong.

"I would not have been able to achieve this progress without the consistent support provided by The Welcome."
— Mr B

Miss L, 21, came to The Welcome after leaving an abusive relationship and moving to a new area with very few belongings. The Welcome and its partner organisations helped furnish her new home with the basics she needed to settle in. Since then her confidence has grown, and she is now exploring volunteering and paid work.

Miss M first came to The Welcome at 15, out of school and finding things hard. A 12 week beauty course became a turning point, and volunteering at The Welcome's café and community events helped her build the confidence and skills to move forward. She now works at a local care home and credits The Welcome with supporting her mental health and preparing her for employment.

None of this happens without people choosing to give locally. Every gift to Cheshire Community Foundation helps organisations like The Welcome be there for people who need them.
